Staff FAQs

What is it like to work at Camp Alsing?

Working as a camp counselor is a transformative experience. At Alsing, we are looking for staff members who hold a keen understanding of the impact that a positive adult role model can have on a young person. We are looking for men and women who care deeply about the positive emotional and social development of children.

Working at camp will be the most fun, and some of the hardest work you’ve ever done. Most staff leave camp with great memories, skills and friendships to last a lifetime. Apply here.

Where will I live?

Coaches live in the dorm (we call it the “Birdhouse”) with campers. The dorm is modern and clean and has A/C, private showers and restrooms. Some Coaches live in singles and others in doubles.

What will I eat?

Campers and counselors eat together in Camp Alsing’s dining hall. Our food is nutritious, tastes good and we strive to accommodate special diets.

Will I get time off?

Staff members get one day off a week. Often coaches have free time after lights out, as well as a break during the activity day.

What are the qualifications?

Alsing staff members will be a minimum of 19 years old, or will have finished at least one year of college. Most of our staff will be graduate students or professionals in their fields working with children and will have a special interest in working with children who have a variety of social and communication challenges. Most of all, our staff members will have boundless energy, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a deeply held belief that all children deserve the best opportunities possible.

Are cell phones and tablets allowed at camp?

Coaches are required to keep cell phones/tablets/laptops in a staff building (outside the dorm) and use these items during breaks and time off. The electronics room is kept locked to ensure privacy and safety, but staff have access to the room 24/7.”

How will I get to camp?

We work with staff to make sure everyone has transportation to and from Camp Alsing.

There are washers and dryers in the dorm and camp admin offices. Staff members will be provided with a laundry card that they then use fill with cash to use the washers and dryers. One load of laundry, washed and dried, is approximately $3.50.

Is there a staff dress code?

Staff members are required to wear Camp Alsing staff t-shirts and name tags at all times when not on a day off. Shirts are provided to staff for no cost, and are returned to camp office at the end of the season.
