Staff FAQs

What is it like to work at Camp Alsing?

Working as a camp counselor is a transformative experience. At Alsing, we are looking for staff members who hold a keen understanding of the impact that a positive adult role model can have on a young person. We are looking for men and women who care deeply about the positive emotional and social development of children.

Working at camp will be the most fun, and some of the hardest work you’ve ever done. Most staff leave camp with great memories, skills and friendships to last a lifetime. Apply here.

Where will I live?

Counselors live in cabins with the campers. Our cabins are newly built and have showers and air-conditioning.

What will I eat?

Campers and counselors eat together in Camp Alsing’s dining hall. Our food is nutritious, tastes good and we strive to accommodate special diets.

Will I get time off?

Staff members get one day off a week.

What are the qualifications?

Alsing staff members will be a minimum of 19 years old, or will have finished at least one year of college. Most of our staff will be graduate students or professionals in their fields working with children and will have a special interest in working with children who have a variety of social and communication challenges. Most of all, our staff members will have boundless energy, a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a deeply held belief that all children deserve the best opportunities possible.

Are cell phones and tablets allowed at camp?

We have a no technology policy (nothing with a screen) for campers. Staff is asked to use cell phones/tablets/laptops in the counselor building.

How will I get to camp?

We work with staff to make sure everyone has transportation to and from Camp Alsing. Travel stipends can be included in staff contracts and will be finalized with the director.

Staff are welcome to send their laundry along with the camper laundry once a week during our camp session.
